Devops Engineer

Job Description

The DevOps/Web/Systems Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, installation / configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure.

This position participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project / operational requirements.
  • Must understand the architecture and design, high availability concepts, load balancers, clustering, networking, operating system concepts, databases, continuous integration and deployment
  • Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade systems and their applications. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
  • Develop and maintain installation, operational, and configuration procedures, Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate into a complex environment and rapidly learn the existing and inbound technologies
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system/ application logs, verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
  • Familiarity in ITSM/Change management process
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
  • Provide after-hours on-call support as assigned.
  • This is NOT a Azure or AWS Devops position.

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Queuing technologies – IBM MQ, MSMQ, TIBCO
  • Windows Server admin experience a plus
  • Knowledge of Load balancing technologies (such as F5/LTM/GTM) will be considered as an asset.
  • Financial/Banking Domain experience
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Write and maintain system documentation

Must Have

MUST HAVE:
Minimum 6 years of system administration or relevant experience preferred in Linux/Unix System Administration experience(RHEL)Experience in engineering Java apps infrastructure. – 5 yearsExperience in administering JBOSS, Tomcat, Websphere and Springboot application servers. 5 yearsExperience in administering Web Servers(Apache and IHS) and messaging(JMS) – 5 yearsJ2EE infrastructure design and build experience – 5 years
Hands-on experience with implementing REST APIs for the Microservices Architecture. – 5 years
Knowledge of database technology (MSSQL Server) – 5 years
Experience using logging and monitoring tools such as SPLUNK and Dynatrace – 4 years
Experience working in a cloud based environment- IPaaS (Infrastructure and Platform as a Service) – 4 years
Scripting experience – Bash, Ansibel, Powershell – 3 years
